Soaring Vegetable and Fruit Prices in the US in 2025 Spark Concerns

In 2025, the prices of various vegetables and fruits in the US have risen significantly, with some items soaring by as much as 75%, which has drawn widespread attention from consumers. Experts point out that inflation, changes in trade policies, and supply chain issues are the main factors causing the price hikes.

According to the latest data from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and LendingTree, from December 2024 to January 2025, the average price of ordinary agricultural products increased by 2.5%, and that of organic products rose by 2.4%. Among them, the price of ordinary Hass avocados increased by 75.4%, kale by 42.9%, extra - large Hass avocados by 38.2%, mixed salad by 36.5%, and bananas by 35.4%.

The prices of organic fruits and vegetables are generally higher than those of ordinary products, with an average premium of 52.6%. Among them, the price of organic romaine lettuce is 179.3% higher than that of ordinary products, and the prices of organic Brussels sprouts and green apples are also significantly higher than those of ordinary products.

In April 2025, the US government imposed a 10% tariff on imported goods from most countries, a 245% tariff on Chinese goods, and a 25% tariff on all imported cars. These tariff policies have led to an increase in operating costs, and many companies have said that they will pass on the costs to consumers.
